    General Summary:

    Manages the Parts Department to ensure that customers’ needs are met and the correct part is obtained the first time; increases focus on business growth, profitability, and employee satisfaction. Oversees all activities of the Parts Department including monitoring department finances, customer service, monitoring parts and accessories inventory, and merchandising.

    • Establishes a purchasing policy and practice that ensures competitive bids from vendors for all tools, equipment, supplies, etc. to become a low cost producer.

    • Builds productive working relationships both within and across departments through clear communications.
    • Generates pride and commitment within the Parts Department; instills customer and employee confidence.
    • Participates in management meetings to ensure open communications between departments.
    • Fosters open communication through active listing; maintains an open door policy.
    • Coordinates with Service Department, Sales Department, General Manager, sublet vendors, or others to ensure effectiveness of the Parts Department.

    Applying the Basics:

    • Uses computers to monitor daily operations, track inventory, and reduce obsolescence.
    • Establishes process to ensure accuracy between inventory and computer records.
    • Utilizes new systems or processes implemented by the dealership.
    • Maintains proficiency in use of in-house computer systems.
    • Plans, analyzes and manages department finances.
    • Establishes processes and standards to ensure customer satisfaction and efficient and effective Parts Department operations.
    • Manages departmental expenses in an effort to ensure the profitability of the dealership.
    • Establishes and maintains an inventory control system that meets the dealership’s internal, warranty, and customers’ needs for parts and accessories.


    • Valid driver’s license required
    • Minimum of High School degree or equivalent
    • 2 years of college with strong emphasis on business skills preferred
    • 2 years in an automotive Parts Department preferred
    • 1 year of supervisory experience
